How to do a space clearing and cleansing with Amanda Claire Vesty from Jack In The Green.
You will need a fan or large feather to help waft the smoke into areas.
Space Clearing and Cleansing Introduction.
First of all, and this may seem really obvious, go around and tidy up. Do your basic vacuuming and dusting, tidying up any clutter, throwing out any unwanted items. Be scrupulous in what you choose to keep. This will take time so do this on a day prior to your clearing ritual.
On the day you do your space clearing make sure any chores are finished. You don’t want to be distracted by mental chatter. The idea is to be calm and collected and present. When you set an intention and follow it through clearly, this is powerful and really sets the tone for proceedings.
Now you can use your space clearing kit to cleanse inside your house. You will now transform all the energy within your space.
Preparing For Space Clearing
Switch off all phones and other electrical equipment. Cover up any mirrors and reflective surfaces. Switching off phones etc stops distractions when you need to be mentally focused. Covering reflective items is because they can act like ‘portals’ letting energy and entities in and out of your space. This can include mirrors, TV and computer screens. So, cover them up for now and we will look at them again in a minute.
In the centre of your home light some palo santo. Make sure you have it in a safe fire proof container and leave this burning in the centre space of your home, most likely in the hallway.
Beginning the Space Clearing
Use the white sage to smudge yourself, cleansing your aura from top to bottom. This will really help with your state of mind as well as energetically cleansing yourself.
Once this is done then go from room to room bottom to top with the black sage. At this stage you can use the banishment suggestion I have written that comes with the space cleansing kit or you could make your own. Use this sage to ‘boot out’ all negative energies and entities.
History of Rough Music and Use of Sound to Dispel Negative Energy
Traditionally ‘rough music’ was employed to dispel all bad spirits and negative energy. This is an ancient tradition using bells, but pots and pans and anything else was also used to create sound. ‘Beating the Bounds’ was one way rough music was used. It not only helped to remember the boundaries of land but also to protect it and bring blessings. Another example is in European bear festivals, celebrations of ancient origin and using bells in the same way usually banishing the winter and welcoming in Spring but whatever the season the reason is to bless the land and what feeds us. It is a celebration of life.
Reciting the Banishment
If you are on your own start with the sound first, then use the smudge and recite a verbal banishment. You can either write your own or use the one I have written included in the Space Clearing kit. Do this for each room in turn. Lift up the cloths covering any mirrors and give them a good fumigating letting the covers fall back over them. As you go in and out of each room in turn check your palo santo is burning and re-light if necessary. You are creating the kind of energy you want in your home. You are also making it very clear to any negative entities that your home is not a place for them to dwell in. Your voice is a very powerful tool and the more clear and confident you sound the better it will be.
Completing the Space Clearing
After the 'rough music', when you do your smudging, this is the time to speak aloud what you are banishing. If you buy the smudging kit I include a banishment and a blessing that you can use in the free ebook.
Make sure ALL rooms/spaces are cleared including attics/loft spaces, cellars, and inside and behind cupboards and curtains. It can help to make a list beforehand and tick them off as you go. It can be surprising just how easy it is to forget somewhere ... and if there is negative energy in your home then you will be inclined to 'forget'.
Once you have cleared your entire space be sure to put out the smudging stick and palo santo. The best way to do this is to push them into sand or salt to smother them cutting off the oxygen. It is not good practise to douse out using water. Thank the spirits of the plants for their help. Thank your allies, helpers and good spirits for their help. Gratitude goes a long way!
So what is next once you have cleared your space? Is that it complete? See part 2 for the next step of your space clearing.
Blessings
